Stanley Spencer was an aeronaut and inventor in London. He was one of a few celebrity old-fashioned balloonists and made many ascents from Crystal Palace.[1]
With his brothers Percival Green Spencer and Arthur Spencer he ran Spencer Brothers Company [what relationship to C. G. Spencer & Sons?]
He first came into the public eye with a series of rooftop parachute descents.[2] He organized a Crystal Palace ascent by Berlin scientist Arthur Berson in September 1898, making use of oxygen to reach an altitude of 27,500 feet.[3] He made a famous ascent with John Mackenzie Bacon and daughter
