Erteilt

When German patent applications reached a certain stage in the process of acceptance they were described as erteilt (or listed under Erteilungen in an index). The date on which this occurred does not appear on the final patent; instead the final copy has a date ausgegeben which typically falls 1–2 months later.

We interpret erteilt as a close match for granted as used by the US and GB offices.

Translation of German patent law Article 1, Section I, §1: "Patents are to be granted (erteilt) for new inventions of which an industrial use (gewerbliche Verwertung) can be made."[1] (Original "Patente werden erteilt für neue Erfindungen, welche eine gewerbliche Verwertung gestatten.")[2]
