In 1883 the Académie des Sciences shared a 3,000 franc award, willed by Charles-Alphonse Pénaud in the interests of encouraging aeronautic innovation, with Gaston Tissandier, Duroy de Brignac and Victor Tatin.
In 1910 the commission had nine members and its president, Bouquet de la Grye, appears to have died that year.
