Harold Edward Sherwin Holt was a British aero inventor, born 1862 and deceased 1932, a mechanical and electrical engineer, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Air Force, and a sometime director of Daimler[1], located (often) at "the Grange, Farnborough Hants", GB[2][3], retired from the military by the time of his aero contributions,[4] with a hand in a few innovative fields though primarily touching our interests by way of the illumination of aircraft.

See Espacenet advanced search on Harold Edward Sherwin Holt. Via this search there are 92 patents filed, 49 of which were filed in his native Britain, beginning in 1894 with electricity and instruments, touching much non-aero, then segueing through aiming and other military applications before getting into aviation per se, largely though not exclusively via illumination devices attached to wings, by around 1912. His work with parachutes seems to have developed after our years of primary interest.
