Département Hautes-Alpes is situated within the present région française Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It was established by a decree of the Assemblée nationale from 15 January 1790. It was one of the 83 départements createed 4 March 1790, in application of the law of 22 December 1789.[1]
