- From google patents abstract: "129,666. Boyle, R., (Representative of Boyle, E.), and Payze, A. Nov. 19, 1917. Balancing. The fin of an aeroplane, or a part of it, is adapted to be withdrawn into the fuselage or moved through to the underside when required. In pusher machines having no enclosed fuselage, part of the fin may be retracted into or slid over the other part. "
- Tech class: CPC B64C13/00: Control systems or transmitting systems for actuating flying-control surfaces, lift-increasing flaps, air brakes, or spoilers
- Inventor occupations and locations: Edwin Boyle: Aeroplane Designer (at time of provisional on 1917-11-19) ; Payze: Captain, R.F.C. ; both of Whitehead Aircraft Co. (1917), Limited, of Richmond, Surrey, England . . . but by time of complete specification (Sept 3 1918), Edwin was deceased and legally represented by Robert Boyle of 81 Cottenham Road, Upper Holloway, London, N., ; spec refers to their application 16503 which is an application number on the spec that becomes Patent GB-1917-129378 ; 16503 is the number designating the Provisional Specification which culminates in the Complete Specification designated by the number 129378.
- labeled "void: sealing fee not paid" -- which suggests that the patent, although granted, never really came into force
This patent, aside from making the reference above, itself involves a Provisional Specification, designated by the number 17030, which culminates in a Complete Specification which uses the number 129666. Both filing dates are found within our data displayed below. In other cases, which are quite rare, more than one Provisional Specification will build towards a Complete Specification, and will involve more filing dates than our standard format takes into account. We still note the date, of course. Whether one patent uses multiple numbers to distinguish between its Specifications is a matter in which we've noticed some variance, as we've articulated on page Provisional Specification.
