Improvement on the horizontal shifting paddle-wheel. Paragraph 1 of the patent says it's an improvement on his own patented invention of June-9, 1843. Although formal priority may not be related to that prior patent, we'll call it a supplementary patent here in order to maintain parallelism with the later treaty standards.
