This USPC patent technology category is for Biasing means maintains working member intermediate stroke end limits. This subclass is indented under subclass 130. Apparatus in which the working member is normally maintained in a position intermediate the ends of the working chamber by said force exerting means, so that upon removal of the force exerted to move the working member in the operation of the expansible chamber device, the working member is returned to such position by said force exerting means.[1]

    • USPC 92/130 Expansible chamber devices with separate biasing means for working member: Apparatus including a separate means other than the working fluid associated with the working member for continuously exerting a force in one direction of movement of the working member.
      • USPC 92/131 Biasing means maintains working member intermediate stroke end limits: Apparatus in which the working member is normally maintained in a position intermediate the ends of the working chamber by said force exerting means, so that upon removal of the force exerted to move the working member in the operation of the expansible chamber device, the working member is returned to such position by said force exerting means.
      • USPC 92/132: Tension spring: Apparatus in which the force exerting means comprises a spring device, said spring device being so related to the working member that movement of the working member responsive to the action of working fluid or a mechanical force to effect normal operation of the working member causes said spring device to be extended from its normal position of equilibrium, so that upon removal of such force, the spring contracts to effect the return movement of said working member.
      • USPC 92/133 Adjustable: Apparatus in which the amount of force exerted by said force exerting means on the working member may be selectively increased or decreased.
      • USPC 92/134 Fluid spring: Apparatus in which the force exerting means comprises a body of confined compressible fluid.
      • USPC 92/135 Biasing means engages working fluid contacting portion of working member: Apparatus in which the force exerting means includes a portion thereof in force transmitting engagement with the working member end face.

Commentary and questions

  • does this category include mechanisms for expanding a LTA-craft's gas bag? or engine cylinders? both? I am guessing both for the moment in "Affiliated concepts" in the template but this is not clear at all
  • does "working member" above refer topistons? if not, what does it mean?
  • does "biasing" here refer to mechanisms to bring a piston or other element back to its central/starting position? It might. If not, what does it mean?
